Match Recap

County settle in and find their shooting boots

Oakland County FC made it three games unbeaten at their renewed home at Royal Oak High School Stadium on Sunday afternoon. County came out victorious over USL2 newcomers Lansing City Football by a score of 4 to 2 on a glorious afternoon in metro Detroit. Over the three last home games, OCFC have hit the back of the net a whopping 10 times. County will play twice on the road before returning home June 24th.

After a frustrating 3-2 loss in Flint on Friday night, Oakland County FC put on a show for the hometown fans on Sunday afternoon. For the second home game in a row, the Elmwood Elite were able to celebrate four goals and three points. Purple smoke and happy faces were in the stands once again after another avalanche of goals for the home team.

New stars and the unwavering captain

County Head Coach Vinnie Vasilevski has had to tinker with his tactics and reshuffle the lineup to turn results positive in recent matches. A big piece of the midseason turnaround is the emergence of striker Keith Larson. The Royal Oak born striker has taken the center forward position by storm, scoring 5 times in the last 4 games! Larson scored early in the game Sunday after he stole the ball high and nutmegged Lansing City keeper Owen Finnerty. Larson scored again early in the second half, when he netted the rebound of his own saved penalty kick attempt. The tall forward was somehow denied a hattrick in the late stages of his appearance and his overall play was goal dangerous and led to more goals for his team.

Another County star on the rise is that of Daniel Iyok. The U of D Mercy midfielder has been immense defensively for County in the last four games. Typically a midfielder, Iyok was called upon to play in the heart of County’s defense Sunday afternoon. “I’ll do anything for the team and the opportunity sounded like a challenge, I’m always up for a good challenge” said Iyok when asked about the call to play center back Sunday. Iyok rose to the challenge of the new position and helped his team to victory.
County Captain Kevin Buca put in another classic performance for County against Lansing City. Buca put together another display of strength, technical skill, and sheer tenacity Sunday. The Rochester MI, native was finally rewarded for his efforts Sunday afternoon, when he finished off an excellent team move in the 59’ minute. Buca’s goal was County’s third of the day and his first of the season.

Two on the road before coming home
